Favre apologized, jubilated, but the Vikings lost

Brett_Favre_VikingsBrett Favre's reunion with the New York Jets ended as badly as the wedding.

The Jets handed the Minnesota Vikings a 29-20 loss on Monday night, despite several personal milestones by Favre, who became the first quarterback ever to throw 500 touchdown passes.

Dwight Lowery sealed the victory when he picked off a Favre pass and returned it 26 yards for a touchdown with 1 minute, 30 seconds left.

After a long stretch when the only thing the Jets seemed capable of doing was setting up field goals for Nick Folk - he kicked five in the first half - Shonn Green broke the game open with a 23-yard jaunt for a fourth-quarter touchdown. After the conversion, the Jets led, 22-13, and the game seemed out of Minnesota's reach.

Favre's 34-yard TD pass to Percy Harvin early in the period had closed the gap to 15-13. The Vikes tried for two but a pass fell incomplete.

But after Green's touchdown, the Vikes got a 44-yard kickoff return by Harvin, out to the Jets' 46.

Favre quickly moved the Vikings in for a touchdown, overcoming a sack and a 5-yard penalty to drive the 46 yards in just five plays. The payoff was an 11-yarder to Harvin and a Ryan Longwell conversion that cut the lead to 22-20.

Favre became the first to throw 500 TD passes, connecting with new teammate Randy Moss from 37 yards out late in the third quarter.
